The 1st annual Surfers Healing Event for autism will be held in Sayulita, Nayarit on Jan. 18th & Jan. 19th. Surfers Healing is an organization whose mission is to enrich the lives of people living with autism by exposing them to the unique experience of surfing. Israel and Danielle Paskowitz originally founded Surfers Healing because of their son, Isaiah, who has autism. When Isaiah struggled with meltdowns and sensory overload, the Paskowitzes learned that the experience of surfing the waves with his father helped calm him down. As a result, they were inspired to create Surfers Healing to help other children with autism through the experience of surfing. Banderas Bay visitors and residents should take time to attend the 1st Annual Surfers Healing event in Sayulita on Jan. 18th and 19th, 2020.
Surfers Healing Event in Sayulita: January 18th & 19th, 2020
The Surfers Healing event will start on Saturday, January 18th with a variety of healing activities designed for children with autism. Children with autism often struggle with sensory overload, and even simple sensations can overwhelm them. On the flip side, the weightlessness and soothing rhythms of the ocean can be therapeutic for children with autism and offers them much needed relief from the constant assault on their senses. In addition to the surf healing activities on January 18th, there will also be a SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding contest) as well. The evening of January 18th will also involve a fun party from 6pm to 9pm at Stand Up Sayulita. Make sure to bring the whole family along to attend this inspiring event that the whole community will benefit from. On Sunday, January 19th, surf camp attendees and guests will enjoy watching a longboard surfing contest as well.
Surfers Healing History – Founded in 1996
Founded in 1996 by Israel and Danielle Paskowitz, Surfers Healing is the original surf camp for children with autism. The Paskowitzes were inspired to help children like their son, Isaiah who has autism. They realized that surfing was able to help calm and soothe Isaiah. As a result, they created Surfers Healing to help other children with autism. Their daylong camps are about acceptance, respite, and fun. Although surfing isn’t a cure for autism, just one day at the beach can make a difference in the life of a child with autism. If you’d like to register for the surf camp, go to www.surfershealing.org to sign up. You can also reserve your spot in the longboard and SUP competitions online as well, or by calling 329-291-3575.
