Moving house can be a very stressful and daunting time for all, and if you are renting, and constantly moving to new locations it can be very tedious. Relocating can be a massive task and many people don’t fully prepare for a move. To help the process of moving house be less stressful, I have put together some helpful tips and advice to make sure things do not go wrong on your moving day.
Packing tips for moving house:
-
Packing boxes
One of the major common errors when moving home is not packing the boxes properly. If done correctly it will help you have an error free move. As the pressure builds waiting for the removal van to arrive on the day you are moving house, there is a tendency to quickly ram possessions into any space available. It is much better to have neatly-packed boxes which help to protect your belongings, and also take up less room on the removal van. It may result in the use of a smaller vehicle and quicker loading times.
-
Organization
It is better that you start packing up as early as possible and allow enough time before your move. Don’t leave your packing to the last minute. When moving house, it is best to start packing items you don’t need everyday first, such as towels, sports equipment and other documents can be done well in advance of your move.
-
An essentials kit
One of the best tips when moving house is to keep your essentials kit or box separate. You should make sure you keep your everyday items such as toiletries, blankets, pillows, medication, phones and chargers, clothes or anything else you might need immediately after moving house in a separate box (or boxes) from the rest of your things. Make sure these boxes are easily identified with a marker, sticker or some other colourful tag, and be sure to tell the removal helpers to keep this box handy.

Junk
Do you really need to take everything you may have collected over the years to your next property? This is a major area which is commonly overlooked in the moving house process. If you are not sure you need it, the golden rule is throw it out. This tip will make a big difference to what goes in the removal van. Make sure though that you do not throw out good items that could be used by others or taken to charities or second hand stores. Always check though, that the charities will accept your items.
