Magnolia Vallartenisis, Puerto Vallarta’s Official Flower
On our 85 acres of stunning jungle preserve you will find Puerto Vallarta’s official flower, the Magnolia Vallartensis (Vallarta Magnolia), which is in danger of extinction. To help preserve this delicate flower, Garza Blanca’s gardening team, headed by Don Gregorio, is taking extra measures and using its green-fingered talent to make sure that this iconic flower is still around for Signature Residence homeowners and guests for centuries to come.

A New Species of Magnolia
According to an article published in Vallarta Opina by local journalist, Rodrigo Lopez Becerril,[1] the endangered official flower of Puerto Vallarta is a new species of magnolia that can only be found in the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta, especially around the Palo Maria River and Cabo Corrientes.

In March 2013, the University of Guadalajara published the official classification of the new species in “Recursos Forestales en el Occidente de México” (Forest Resources in the West of Mexico), in which years of research by Dr. José Antonio Vázquez García, alongside Ricardo Díaz Borioli and Rosa Murguía Araiza, investigating new botanical findings in the region was documented.

According to environmentalist, Ricardo Díaz Borioli, the classification helps to establish clear protocol regarding the protection and naming of the flower, which was established by the Puerto Vallarta City council as the official flower for Puerto Vallarta: Agreement Number 0899/2012.

Since that time, the new official flower has been planted in various areas around Puerto Vallarta, not only to combat its endangered status but also to make it accessible for locals and visitors to enjoy.
