Puerto Vallarta has long been a melting pot, and as the years have gone on many different activities, tours, and establishments have sprung up to cater to the needs of these many people. On every side of Banderas Bay you will find something different to enjoy when living in Puerto Vallarta with a young family.

Downtown Puerto Vallarta

The downtown area is perfect for children and families of all ages; the boardwalk is a great place to see and be seen. Senor Frogs might appeal to your teenagers, but your little ones will be more mesmerized by the Papantla dancers in the area. If you walk even further along the boardwalk you will come to Los Muertos Pier where you can enjoy the waves and ice cream. The malecon is sure to become a focal point for family life when living in Puerto Vallarta with a young family.

South Shore

The south shore is home to the iconic Garza Blanca Resort & Spa, but that’s not all. If you start where the cobblestone streets end and the highway begins you can follow it to Barra de Navidad. This road will take you along some of the most stunning coastline routes with the most spectacular views. Whether you love the beach and river, or you want to hike through jungles, or even if want to take your children to the zoo or the Vallarta Botanical gardens, the south shore is the place for you!

North

On the north shore you will find a relaxed, hippy atmosphere. Starting where the International airport is you should drive towards Riviera Nayarit and you will reach Nuevo Vallarta where there are endless beaches perfect for boogie boarding, surfing, and swimming. Bucerias is a cool and hip place that your children will really love, while Punta Mita is the place to be if you like boating, seafood, whale or bird watching, and the sunshine.

Sayulita

Sayulita is a real surfers paradise so if your children want to hit the waves, this is place to learn! The crowd in Sayulita is young, hip, and sporty, so if you have demanding teenagers to contend with it makes a great outing! There are great restaurants around the plaza for you to enjoy, too. Just make sure you all enjoy a fresh fruit popsicle.

Mountain Towns

The mountain towns around Banderas Bay and Puerto Vallarta provide a great alternative to the sweltering sun at the seaside when living in Puerto Vallarta; the charming mountain towns and villages are cooler and very easy to get to if you’re willing to rent a vehicle or you have your own car. The freedom to experience the culture that this offers a family is unprecedented. For example, if you travel just one hour inland from Puerto Vallarta you will find the magical town of San Sebastian del Oeste where there is a wonderful plaza to enjoy. You can hike up the river, enjoy the breeze, or dine in one of the great traditional restaurants there.

Only 30 minutes further up along the highway from San Sebastian there is the town of Mascota which has a stunning medieval church to see as well as the well-loved Sierra Lago resort. This resort has long attracted families living in Puerto Vallarta. This resort has bicycles, horses, and serves some of the most amazing meals below gorgeous apricot trees. This place is a must visit for those with growing children who want stunning outside space to explore.

Ride a Trolley

If you want a day out in Puerto Vallarta that will delight the whole family you can head to the former Teatro Vallarta for the Viva Tequila experience. This might sound like a strictly 21 and over tour, but those not old enough to enjoy Mexico’s most iconic spirit can still get their kicks from a trolley tour, or the folklore show which can be found here.

Puerto Vallarta is one of the most iconic and well-loved vacation destinations in Mexico, but more than that it makes an amazing home for those who wish to emigrate for a better quality of life. Living in Puerto Vallarta with a young family is sure to bring you great pleasure.
