A New Species of Magnolia<\/strong>
\nAccording to an article published in Vallarta Opina by local journalist, Rodrigo Lopez Becerril,[1]<\/sup><\/sup><\/a> the endangered official flower of Puerto Vallarta is a new species of magnolia that can only be found in the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta, especially around the Palo Maria River and Cabo Corrientes.<\/p>\n

In March 2013, the University of Guadalajara published the official classification of the new species in “Recursos Forestales en el Occidente de M\u00e9xico” (Forest Resources in the West of Mexico), in which years of research by Dr. Jos\u00e9 Antonio V\u00e1zquez Garc\u00eda, alongside Ricardo D\u00edaz Borioli and Rosa Murgu\u00eda Araiza, investigating new botanical findings in the region was documented.<\/p>\n

According to environmentalist, Ricardo D\u00edaz Borioli, the classification helps to establish clear protocol regarding the protection and naming of the flower, which was established by the Puerto Vallarta City council as the official flower for Puerto Vallarta: Agreement Number 0899\/2012.<\/p>\n

Since that time, the new official flower has been planted in various areas around Puerto Vallarta, not only to combat its endangered status but also to make it accessible for locals and visitors to enjoy.<\/p>\n
