The Chocolate Walk will give you and a small group of like-minded people a glimpse into the processes and products of some of the finest chocolatiers in Puerto Vallarta! You will get to actually see the inside of two production kitchens, and there will of course be samples! Don\u2019t worry; you\u2019ll have plenty of opportunity to purchase your favorite treats on the way.<\/p>\n

History and Chocolate are firmly and indelibly linked in Mexico, and as you walk around Puerto Vallarta you will no doubt come to see this. Many of the discussion during this tour will concern the origins and development of chocolate amongst the indigenous peoples of Mexico and how it eventually spread throughout the world.<\/p>\n

Mexico\u2019s chocolate<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Today chocolate is one of the most popular sweets and treats in the world, but its popularity in Mexico has been longer lived by far than in any other country. Chocolate has been around in Mexico for around 4,000 years and has been used for ceremonies and in medicines just as often has it has been consumed for enjoyment.<\/p>\n

For the Aztecs the beans of the Cacao tree (from which modern chocolate is derived) were used in ceremonies and rituals in the form of a beverage, while the Maya used Cacao beans for a variety of medicinal purposes. In fact, even the word \u201cchocolate\u201d is a derivative of the Aztec \u201cxocoatl\u201d (which is the name of the drink they brewed with the beans).<\/p>\n

For ancient Mexicans Cacao beans have had a revered position in the ceremonies surrounding birth, death, and marriage for many thousands of years.<\/p>\n

You will learn much about this during the Chocolate Walk, but you will also get to have a \u201chands on\u201d experience, too, when you grind cacao beans for that ancient beverage in a mini-class at the end of the tour. You will see for yourself if this drink was as heavenly as the Spanish Conquistadores believed.<\/p>\n
