Living or visiting Puerto Vallarta, Mexico has so many wonderful privileges, not least of which include enjoying the natural beauty that surrounds. Waterfalls are perhaps not the first natural wonder to spring to mind when you think of Puerto Vallarta – overshadowed by the Pacific Ocean hues, daily sunsets, whales breaching on the horizon and the Sierra Madre Mountains – but you will be surprised at the fun you can have in search of Puerto Vallarta\u2019s waterfalls, which make the rainy season a great time to visit Banderas Bay.<\/p>\n

Garza Blanca Preserve\u2019s Waterfall<\/strong><\/h2>\n

If you are a Garza Blanca resident then you will not have to go very far to visit a beautiful waterfall. During and after the rainy season, from around June until December, the waterfall on the Garza Blanca Preserve has enough volume for you to be able to swim at the foot of the picturesque falls surrounded by birdsong and the rustle of tropical jungle. If you don\u2019t know how to find the waterfall, join one of the weekly hikes and follow the activities team. Once you know where it is, you can head there on your own schedule. Imagine living in a place that has its own natural waterfall!<\/p>\n

Quimixto Waterfall <\/strong><\/h2>\n

South from Garza Blanca Preserve, you can find a larger waterfall at Quimixto beach. To get to Quimixto you need to get a water taxi from Boca de Tomatl\u00e1n just 10 minutes by bus or taxi from Garza Blanca. Once you arrive to Boca de Tomatl\u00e0n you take a water taxi that will cost you a couple of dollars and just over 10 minutes to arrive to the sleepy fishing village of Quimixto. From the pier, ask directions to the waterfall by saying nicely \u201c\u00bfdonde esta la cascada, por favor?\u201d and following their pointing. Once you get on the trail it is hard to get lost. If you want to be double sure, you can rent a horse once you arrive to the river and let the horse lead you! The waterfall at Quimixto has a small snack bar in high season and is great for diving, including from great heights.<\/p>\n

Yelapa\u2019s Waterfalls<\/strong><\/h2>\n

If you are willing to travel a little further by water taxi, a day trip to Yelapa and a walk to one of its waterfalls is well worth an adventure. Yelapa has two worthy waterfalls, the best one is much further from the shore and will probably take you a couple of hours to walk and you are likely to be among only a few to bask in its waters. The more popular waterfall is about a 45 minute walk. Be sure to take your sneakers or walking shoes as the tracks can get quite tough.<\/p>\n
