Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival: May 17th – 19th

The Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival is amping up for it’s 9th edition. If you live in the Banderas Bay area during mid May 2019, you simply can’t miss this incredible event. The 1st Edition of Wind Festival occurred in 2011 thanks to the initiative of the Mexican Kiteboard Association which aimed to create a space so the sport of sailing in the Riviera Nayarit region could be promoted. As a result, this event is held annually in the coastal town of Nuevo Vallarta just north of Puerto Vallarta. Each years has exceeded the expectations of the organizing committee and attendance and community support is on the rise. Keep reading below to learn more about this year’s Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival which will be held on May 17th, May 18th and May 19th in Nuevo Vallarta.

Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival: 100 Moments of Mexico Winner

Most people know that Mexico has thousands of attractions and incredible tourist destinations. Visitors and residents alike love the chance to live unforgettable experiences and this event is affiliated with the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA), Mexican Sailing Federation (FDV),
Mexican Association of Kiteboard, and has the support of the Government and Tourism of Riviera Nayarit. In 2016, the Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival was one of the winners of 100 Moments of Mexico, which was a competition of the best events to attend in the entire country. A year later in 2017, the record number of participants was broken when 250 entries were received to compete in the multi day event. This year, over 300 competitors from different parts of Mexico and across the world are expected to participate. In addition to participants, more than 5000 spectators are expected to attend and 100 news and media outlets will be on hand to report on the event.

Event Categories and Location

The Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival will be held in the family-friendly resort town of Nuevo Vallarta, which is just 30 minutes north of Garza Blanca. Come join participants and attendees from all over the world.
It is destined to be a  fun filled weekend of water activities, great food and entertainment. The largest number of participants are competing in the Kiteboarding competition. Kiteboarding categories include Freestyle, Downwind, Slalom, Big Air, Long Distance and Regata de Foil. Competition rules indicate that participants start at the same time, and the winner of each category is whoever reaches the goal the fastest. The Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival promotes the sport of windsurfing, which is perfectly suited to take advantage of Riviera Nayarit’s idyllic beaches and ocean breezes. In addition, the Riviera Nayarit Wind Festival is sponsoring Mexico’s International Kiteboarding Championship this year.
The International Kiteboarding Championship aims to raise awareness of the area’s ideal location for water sports, as well as supporting riders to grow professionally during competition.
