Do you love fresh and tasty mangoes? One of the most beloved seasonal tropical fruits, mangoes are enjoyed by many as it is mango season in Puerto Vallarta right now. If you love mangoes, make sure not to miss the second annual Puerto Vallarta’s Mango Festival that will be held at Lázaro Cárdenas Park on Saturday, July 7th from 4pm to 10pm. Located in the Romantic Zone or Zona Romantica, the park is just one block inland from the popular Los Muertos beach and Puerto Vallarta pier.
Mangos are originally from Asia, in specific India, where they have long been a staple in a typical diet. They are so popular that the Sanskrit word for mango, am, actually also means provisions. As traders and travelers came to experience the delicious mango fruit, they were cultivated in other parts of the Far East, specifically in warm climates. These delicious fruits made their appearance here in Mexico back in 1775 when Spanish traders that travelled between the Philippines and Mexico brought them over. Today, mangoes are grown in many states throughout Mexico especially in Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Michoacán, Veracruz and Chiapas. In fact, Mexico is one of the top exporters of mangoes in the entire world, with only China exporting slightly more.
The Mango Festival is open to the public and there will be plenty of free entertainment. And what Mango Festival would be complete without lots of mango tasting! There will be tickets available for purchase for only 25 pesos (which is around $1.50 USD) for each sample mango dish or mango drink item. Many popular local restaurants and vendors have lined up to offer these tasty treats at the Mango Festival including Bar La Playa, Los Muertos Brewing, Murphy’s Irish Pub, India Gate, PV Cupcakes, La Sanderia, Vallarta Botanical Gardens and many more. A large variety of delicious mango inspired food items will be available including wings, empanadas, pizza, cupcakes, pastries and other baked goods. There will even be frozen popsicles to cool you down in this hot Puerto Vallarta weather that will come with or without vodka. More in the mood for a beer? Not to fear, there will be draft beer available as well.
As far as entertainment, the first event is scheduled to start at 5pm with the elegant sounds of the Orquesta Escuela de Puerto Vallarta. There is a nice line up of live music that will keep the energy up and there is plenty of space for dancing if you are in the mood to shimmy. The opening act will be followed by Hired Guns at 6pm, Da Crew at 7pm, Jose Carlos Olvera at 8pm and Alan Vallejo Garcia will close the evening with his performance at 9pm.
Make sure to head out to the Puerto Vallarta Mango Festival on Saturday, July 7th, 2018 so you can enjoy an abundance of tantalizing mango treats and live music as well!
