Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa in Puerto Vallarta is not only an idyllic vacation spot and real estate opportunity, but it will take you to higher grounds as you listen and watch out for the preserve’s most unique and beautiful feathered neighbors. Owners and guests can enjoy complimentary birdwatching tours organized by the activities team or simply spot these lovely birds as you walk leisurely on the grounds.
Take a look at the birds you are likely to meet at Garza Blanca Preserve:
The luxury nature preserve where Garza Blanca Signature Residences are located is named after one of the most iconic local birds, the garza blanca. These white herons stroll, play, and dive for fish on the coastlines of Garza Blanca beach each day. You can catch a sight of these gorgeous creatures along with seagulls, pelicans, and other coastal birds during sunrise and sunset in particular.
Meet one of the most distinguished feathered residents at Garza Blanca, the chachalaca. Once you spot a bird that looks like a combination of a pheasant and a wild turkey, then that’s most probably a chachalaca. These brown galliform birds are generally shy of humans. But if you want to have a closer look at their pretty feathers and observe their majesty, you can certainly find them near the Outdoor Play and Fitness Center. Better yet, ask for the assistance of head gardener, Gregorio who will show you where they are around the orchid sanctuary.
The chachalaca male’s favorite spots are among the higher branches of the trees at the Garza Blanca Preserve where it can easily feed on berries. Female chachalacas mostly prefer the lower branches and the ground as they forage on vegetation. You can catch these pair close together during the female’s gestation period. Most of the time, the female will remain just a few feet away from her male counterpart and would rather feed herself several minutes after the male is done eating.
If you hear a rhythmic tapping as you walk amongst the forest, then that’s a sign that a woodpecker is searching for insects or is busy building a nest. A woodpecker may be difficult to spot during your birdwatching tour but looking out for signs of its presence is a delight. You will see their trademark holes in various trees around the preserve.
Hearing and seeing the many parakeets among the treetops is a lucky experience especially for those who are really fond of birds. The activities team will be able to show you some locations where a nest may be found. You can quietly observe these lovely birds as they build their nests beside the large termite nests on the sides of the trees.
All guests and owners can enjoy this gentle expedition on Garza Blanca’s tropical preserve. Young or old, curious first timers to expert bird enthusiasts will surely enjoy the wildlife and natural beauty found in this activity. This wonderful birdwatching experience starts in the resort’s lobby where an expert bird guide will escort you into the forest and there you will have your breathtaking journey as you explore the many species of beautiful flying creatures.
As you go deeper into the jungle, the guide will teach you ways to differentiate the varieties of birds by listening to their sounds and their beautiful songs. You will be able to distinguish some bird calls like that of macaws and jays amidst the tranquility of the lush surroundings. The specific fruits and berries which are the source of diet for the birds and some visible nests will also be pointed out to you by your guide.
